Microdermabrasion at Home: What are the Benefits?

Microdermabrasion used to be a “professional service”, only available from trained professionals with expensive equipment. Fortunately, microdermabrasion at home has become possible, making the treatment accessible to many people who could not afford it before.

The biggest single benefit of course, is the reduced cost. For the price of a single salon treatment (or less), you can acquire you own kit (roughly between $50 and $100), and be able to apply treatment for as long as you wish, or require. All you need to budget for is replenishing the creams, cleaning agents, and batteries. For those on a tight budget, or those who happen to have more than one acne ridden teenager in the house, it would mean a considerable saving.

Another benefit of being able to do microdermabrasion at home, is the fact that you can do it in your own time. Many people keep hectic schedules, or work long hours, making it impossible to visit a salon. Many people in smaller towns also may not have access to professional treatment, and driving to the next town simply to receive a facial treatment may not be an option. Having the equipment available whenever you need it eliminates the need to adapt to the hours or location of the nearest professional.

Lastly, many people are shy, and would rather not visit a salon. You may be stuck with a teenager who dreads being seen in public due to a skin condition, or simply does not want to go into a public venue for treatment. Being able to perform microdermabrasion at home allows for total privacy, with no need for embarrassment or fear.

The typical home kit for microdermabrasion should yield results in about four to five weeks. However, keep in mind that there are a number of factors that could influence this. The condition of your skin, your knowledge of the process, and your knowledge of the product will contribute to the equation. You may have a “stubborn skin”, or you may not interpret the instructions correctly, both of which could hamper the outcome. Keep in mind that professional people are sent for training, whereas you are only supplied with a manual, leaving you to learn on your own.
