Remove Ever Acne Scar: Dermabrasion Treatment

For those suffering from the condition, it is a painful reminder seeing an acne scar. Dermabrasion is an effective, cost-effective way of getting rid of these scars, and restore your skin’s natural condition.

Dermabrasion is a relatively simple, straightforward procedure. It is used to treat scarred tissue, wrinkles and even pigmentation. It involves the use of a rotating brush or wheel, running at high speed. The “offending” tissue is abraded, and even removed if need be.

It is a purely mechanical technique, and it simply relies on the coordination and control of the person applying the treatment. Once the affected skin is removed, a “new” skin surface will grow back, without any blemishes. How long it takes to grow back will depend on the surface area, and the condition of the treated area (the skin condition will determine the amount of abrasion needed). Your skin is likely to be swelled for a while, but once restored, you won’t have to face any acne scar. Dermabrasion, although simple and physical, is effective.

Before the treatment can be applied, some criteria have to be met. Firstly, some medication can interfere with the recovery process, so you will have to quit using it for a while first. Any other active skin problems (such as rosacea or cold sores) have to be attended to first, and your tendencies for forming scars and keloids are considered as well. Undergoing the treatment while any of these factors are present will likely be less successful.

If only a small area is to be treated, the procedure can be done in your doctor’s surgery, using only a local anesthetic. For treating larger areas, a hospital setting, and a general anesthetic is required. The skin has to be abraded as deep as the actual reach of the acne scar. Dermabrasion, although simple in itself will require careful after-operative care to prevent infection.

As the skin grow back, you are likely to feel stinging, and later tingling sensation. As your skin recovers, the swelling and redness will subside, and the scar-free tissue will appear. For around three months, try to keep out of the sun to avoid possible pigmentation of the treated area.
