Microdermabrasion: Acne Treatment Without the Pain

Originally, people who wanted to combat the signs of aging turned to microdermabrasion. Acne sufferers soon followed suit when the capabilities and the possibilities of the treatment process became clear.

Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for addressing acne. While it can be applied to help heal active acne breakouts, it can also be used to reduce the probability of future breakouts, and it can be used to address acne scarring up to some degree.

Under normal circumstances, the skin would rely on its own process of exfoliation – the outer layer of skin is allowed to “die”, and sloughed off, making place for a new, “fresh” layer of skin to surface. IN the event of acne, this process needs to be accelerated due to damage being done inside the skin. Microdermabrasion does just that.

Tiny crystals are applied to the skin surface under force, creating the effect of a (gentle) “sandblasting”. It may sound rough, but it’s not (it’s just the only available parallel that explains the principle). The outer layer of “dead” skin is removed, encouraging the new layer to surface faster than it naturally would.

At the same time, the excess oil, and bacteria contained in the “old” skin layer is removed (it is actually physically sucked away by vacuum and discarded), unclogging pores in the skin surface, reducing the probability of another breakout. Thus by receiving microdermabrasion, acne can (to an extent) be kept under control.

The result of the removal of the “old” skin, is that the new layer is allowed to surface before it can be subjected to the condition and environment of the “old” skin, without the same blemishes as the layer it replaces.

Due to the fact that exfoliation is accelerated, and the very substances causing breakouts are removed, acne can be reduced (as a preventive measure) by regular treatments of microdermabrasion. Acne will not be able to get a proper foothold once the “breeding ground” (e.g. the dead skin cells and oil) is removed.

Keep in mind that in order to draw maximum benefit from this treatment, it has to be done on a regular basis. It will continue to speed up the natural exfoliation, cleaning up impurities before it can cause another acne breakout.

Skin Dermabrasion

Skin dermabrasion is one of the most miraculous innovations in health and beauty in all of history.  It’s only a few decades old, but it has made a profound difference in millions of people’s lives.  Until it was invented, people with severe scarring from acne or other misfortunes of life had no choice but just to live with a disfigured face.  This took a terrible emotional and psychological toll on millions of people over the centuries.  It ruined social lives, destroyed attraction to the opposite sex, and often consigned the victim to a lonely life of lifetime celibacy.  In less enlightened times, they even became the butt of jokes and couldn’t go out in public without being mercilessly ridiculed.

Spa Dermabrasion

More and more people are looking into microdermabrasion to achieve the very best complexion they can have.  Another name for this technique is spa dermabrasion.  That’s because unlike regular dermabrasion, it doesn’t have to be performed by a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon.  It can be done in a doctor’s office, but many beauty salons and spas offer the service too, performed by trained professionals.  Also, it’s not for really severe skin problems.  It wasn’t designed for people with really severe pitting or scarring from acne or other problems.  But it can certainly handle light scarring and other small skin problems.

Microdermabrasion Spa

Should you use a microdermabrasion spa, or is it better to go to a doctor to have it done?  That’s the question on the minds of a lot of women.  They’ve heard and read people raving about the results of microdermabrasion, and they’ve seen what it’s done for their friends, sisters, daughters, etc.  They start inquiring about treatments for themselves, and they see that both spas and doctor’s offices offer the service.  Many women are naturally drawn to the idea of going to the doctor’s office for microdermabrasion, but in most cases that’s probably not the best decision.

Microdermabrasion Systems

Personal microdermabrasion systems can be a great value for anyone who’s currently receiving microdermabrasion treatments from a professional technician.  And anyone who hasn’t tried any form of microdermabrasion should certainly consider purchasing a system, too.  Why?  Well, the biggest reason is money.  While there’s a wide range of prices for the treatments, and some locales will have more competition than others meaning lower prices, having it done professionally is not cheap.  Some people are paying a couple hundred dollars per session, and a round of treatments consists of several sessions.  Because the effect wears off as the new skin ages, it’s something that has to be done again and again if you want to keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.

Stretch Marks Dermabrasion

When it comes to stretch marks, dermabrasion is one of the best way to get rid of them.  Some sort of medical treatment is necessary to remove them.  There’s really no debate about this.  Nothing else can remove stretch marks.  Not exercise.  Not a lotion.  Not an ointment.  There are various medical procedures that can, though.  Laser skin resurfacing is one option, but only works while the marks are still relatively new.  Once they’re no longer red, it’s not really an option.  Another is a chemical peel, which can be painful and risky.  Finally, the most drastic option is to have the marks surgically removed.

Microdermabrasion Results

Are microdermabrasion results really as good as people claim?  You’re probably wondering that if you’ve heard good things about this “miracle” application on the news, or read about it in a magazine or  on the internet.  People are raving about their results.  And it’s not just a handful of people who swear by what’s come to be known as the lunchtime peel.  (It’s called that because you don’t have to miss work or anything for healing.)  Just about everyone who’s had the procedure done is extremely pleased with it.  Compare that with the latest hyped skin care product, of which there seems to be a new one that sweeps the nation just about every year.  But once you try it for yourself, the results are often less than promised.

Microdermabrasion Peel

Have you considered getting a microdermabrasion peel?  If you’re thinking of going to a cosmetic surgeon to have a chemical skin peel, you should consider microdermabrasion.  The results can be just as good in many instances, and if your skin damage isn’t really all that bad, it is almost certainly a better option for you.  The results are so good, in fact, that the procedure has acquired the nickname of “the lunchtime peel”.  That’s because it doesn’t require a visit to a doctor, or any anesthesia, and a session can be over in just a few minutes.  Getting one on your lunch break probably isn’t really feasible, at least for most people, but the nickname stuck because of the convenience and ease of the treatments.

Dermabrasion: Acne Scar Treatment

Contrary to popular belief, acne cannot be cured by using dermabrasion. Acne scars can be treated to the extent of the scar being removed or greatly reduced, but it cannot be cured by using a mechanical procedure.

Let’s take a look at the facts about the process:

1. It is a  surgical process that actually employs a special tool to “sand” the skin.

2. This facilitates the removal of the old, or damaged, outer layer of skin, allowing a new, younger looking layer to replace it.

Originally this kind of treatment was only available from medical practitioners, but eventually crystal microdermabrasion is available for home use.
